Sandy the STEM Student

Sandy is a PhD student in their first or second semester, who has previous experience writing code at undergraduate level, for their final-year project. They were recommended to take the Version Control with Git course by their Centre for Doctoral Training, and take this course immediately afterwards. As they have previous experience writing code they have a fairly good idea of how code can get a bit messy, and so they understand how the tips and tools introduced in the material would slot into their workflow.

Ashley the Arts & Humanities Student

Ashley is a PhD student late on in their first year, or in their second. They took the Version Control with Git course earlier on in their first year, and have now spent a few months writing code to analyse and manipulate data as part of their project. Now they have built up some experience writing code they want to understand how they can keep track of their development, and are in a position to understand how the material might fit into their workflow.

Charlie the Computer Scientist

Charlie has plenty of experience writing code in their undergraduate or from a short stint in industry. They’re familiar with version control, but don’t have that much experience running a project themselves. Finding out how different their project is from the sort of industrial practises taught in their undergraduate or time in industry, they want to get a bit more of a handle on how to self-manage.
